Injunction, ruling on Ultrasound Bill to be Appealed

TCDL RELEASE

AUSTIN, Texas -- Yesterday U.S. District Court judge Sam Sparks issued an injunction striking down several portions of the recently enacted ultrasound bill, which among other things requires abortionist doctors to make ultrasound images, and the sound of the baby’s heartbeat, available to women prior to undergoing an abortion procedure.

"We believe Judge’s Spark’s decision is contrary to current law and that Texas women are best served by being provided more information so they can make a fully informed decision before undergoing an irreversible and serious medical procedure” remarked Greg Terra, attorney and President of the Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL), a prolife legal organization.

Terra continued, notice of appeal has been filed by the State of Texas to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans where we expect it to be soundly reversed.” “The Texas Center for Defense of Life will be submitting an amicus brief in support of Texas’ position in the case and we look forward to the decision at the 5th Circuit.

Stephen Casey, attorney and TCDL Vice President, agreed. "We are confident that the law will be upheld and eventually will be fully implemented here in Texas. All physicians are required to provide their patients with informed consent, and Texas women will be best served by being provided the information required by this new.

The Texas Center for Defense of Life is a non-profit (501c3 status pending) formed to provide legal representation and support to pro-life organizations and individuals in Texas, and to aggressively defend the sanctity of innocent human life in state and federal courts.
