UPDATE: Fort Hood's Main Gate and Clear Creek Gate will be open to all vehicles noon to 10 p.m. July 4 for Freedom Fest. Each individual in the vehicle must have a valid identification to enter the installation. Authorized forms of identification are a driver's license or ID card with a photo issued by a state licensing agency (such as Texas Department of Public Safety); an Independent School District ID with photo (students only); U.S. passport or U.S. passport card. Shuttle-bus service will also run every 20 minutes between 3-11 p.m. from Ellison and Shoemaker High Schools.
FORT HOOD, Texas -- Fort Hood will host its celebration of the nation's 235th birthday from 1-10 p.m. July 4 at Sadowski Field with free entertainment headlined by swing band "Cherry Poppin’ Daddies."
Other musical guests include progressive rock band "Ordain" and hard rock band "Anchored."
Additional activities will include free carnival rides, military working dog demonstration, laser tag, mechanical bull ride, miniature stock-car racing, fishing pond, climbing wall, concessions, family activities, arts and crafts vendors, and a military salute to the nation.
The fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. with a 30-minute display choreographed to patriotic music.
Prohibited items are explosive weapons, firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles, glass containers (except baby bottles), pets, alcohol and fireworks.
Permitted items include: strollers, coolers (will be searched), Camelbacks (will be searched), umbrellas, blankets, lawn chairs, small wagons, cameras, video recorder/camcorders, and service animals (guide dogs, etc..).
