Oh, groovy! Newly minted 3 star General Donald M Campbell, Jr., former Deputy and Commanding General at U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC). The Department of Defense Suicide Event Report (DoD-SER) for each CY 2008 - 2010, will reveal his track record on USAREC suicide events during his two tours of duty as General in the #1 and #2 spots. Plus the earlier Army Report, ASER, going back to the dates he came aboard. You do know that Army Recruiters are soldiers, right? You do know that about 70% of them are combat vets, right? You do know that many of them are arbitrarily assigned/detailed to USAREC after sometimes four back to back combat deployments, right? You do know that there were multiple suicides on Lt Gen Campbell's watch at USAREC, right? And, they continue to this day - why place combat vets in a pressure cooker after they come home from the Desert? Here is a good idea even supported by USAREC studies and reports - return the 7,500 Army Recruiters/combat vets to their tactical MOS's and convert the Recruiter jobs to civilian slots. We gain 7,500 soldiers back in the Army units and we gain for the Country 7,500 new jobs for unemployed American taxpayers with marketing and sales expertise who can perform the jobs without flashbacks caused by the on the job Recruiting super stress, and then ending up walking outside committing suicide in the parking lot in front of the Army Recruiting Station, in our local strip malls. It happens. The Army has no shame - promoting these Generals in USAREC, USAAC and TRADOC where suicide has been the tragic norm since 2001. Google army recruiter suicides. Can you imagine being promoted in your job at USAREC if up to 17 people working for you committed suicide? Hold these Army Generals accountable and cut the DOD budget to get their attention. Ask ourselves, do we really need 400 Army Generals? Their monster salaries, entitlements and pensions and then their second careers - reportedly, 80% go to work for DOD contractors as executives. And again, we pick up the tab. Take care of the soldiers, not your careers.
