FORT HOOD, Texas – The First Team headquarters and one of its brigades will case their colors signifying their upcoming deployment to Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn, April 15, at Cooper Field in front of the 1st Cavalry Division headquarters beginning at 4 p.m.
The Color Casing Ceremony will include a Division Change of Responsibility Ceremony.
The 1st Cavalry Division headquarters will case their colors signifying their upcoming deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in eastern Afghanistan. Approximately 800 Soldiers of the division headquarters will deploy throughout April and May.
The division will support the Afghan National Security Forces as they provide security for the Afghan people by working together with our Coalition and alliance partners.
After the ceremony the division will hold a Stable Call for all attendees. The Stable Call will include food, live music and games for children.
As the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cav. Div, case their colors, they will become the 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade as they deploy in support of Operation New Dawn to command United States Division- North in northern Iraq.
Approximately 4,000 Soldiers will begin their departure in early summer.
The role of the AABs is advising ISF locally and nationally, providing them a logistical safety net, and assisting with governmental and private initiatives through mentorship and funding.
The 1st Cavalry Division top NCO, Command Sgt. Major Rory Malloy will relinquish responsibility, April 15, to Command Sgt. Maj. Isaia Vimoto, who comes to the First Team from Division West where he served as the division command sergeant major.
Malloy will become the commandant of Sergeant Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas.
