One of Waco's largest employers has today announced a layoff of just over 50 employees as an efficiency initiativeis being undertaken by the Department of Defense. An L-3 spokesman released the following statement from the company president:
"The Department of Defense is undertaking major efficiency initiatives and it’s our responsibility to ensure that L-3 Platform Integration supports these efforts and remains a market leader by providing aircraft integration services as optimally as possible. Today, we reduced our workforce by approximately 2.5 percent, action that will keep us among the most competitive in our industry and positioned for long-term success."
-- L-3 Platform Integration President James Burkhardt
The local spokesman said it was noteworthy that while these layoffs were announced today, there are still thirty positions open for engineers and aircraft technicians. Total employment at L-3's Waco facility stands at about 2000.
