Waco is a popular destination for high school football playoff games with its central location. This weekend, Waco will host six games bringing the total to 15 so far this season with two more playoff weekends left. More than 30,000 visitors are expected in Waco this weekend for the playoff games.
The Chamber playoff committee, chaired by Mike Simon with Higginbotham and Assoc., provides food and hospitality in the press box and presents the championship trophy sponsored by H-E-B.
This tradition began in 1985 to encourage playoff teams to play their games in Waco, said Steve Smith, senior vice president of Sports & Special Events for the Chamber.
“We enjoy meeting with the media, coaches and scouts for the next round teams during playoffs. They love the outstanding hospitality that our dedicated volunteers provide and have complimented the great food made possible by our generous sponsor, H-E-B,” said Smith.
“Not only do these guests come to Waco and eat in our restaurants and even do some Christmas shopping while they’re here, they also get to see Waco as a friendly place with excellent stadiums and amenities. This is what ‘changing perceptions’ is really all about.”
