A 19 year old Waco woman has been arrested on charges of injury to a child in an investigation that goes back to July. An arrest warrant was served on Artissa Denise Washington Thursday and she was booked into the McLennan County Jail. Sgt Melvin Roseborough with the Waco Police Dept says the case stems from a hospital referral where the suspect took her two and half year old son to the emergency room because he had been vomiting for several days. He had injuries and scars all over his body that was indicative of physical abuse. The child was sent to Scott & White Hospital. Investigation and medical exams showed he had an internal head injury due to a severe blow to the head. Detectives got a warrant for the mother and she was picked up on the warrant at the Child Protective Services offices yesterday. Child was first taken to the emergency room at 1 AM on July 14th. Washington has posted $25-thousand bond and has been released from the McLennan County Jail.
