A 21-year-old Riesel man was killed while trying to push a damaged car off the highway. It happened Sunday morning about 6 a.m. on the southbound side of Interstate 35 in Bellmead as Russell Lee Clifton and another man were trying to push a car that had been involved in another accident off the road.
A 1997 Ford Mustang driven by an Abbott man stuck the side of a 2002 Mazda that the two men were trying get off the roadway. Clifton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nineteen-year-old Anthony Ochoa of Riesel was the other man pushing the damaged vehicle when it was hit. He was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he was treated and released.
