Thirty-six year old Tammy Lou Beckett has been sentenced to 35 years in prison on a charge of Injury to a Child after pleading guilty to the charges in a McLennan County District Court.
She is accused of injuring a ten month old girl who had been left in her care by her mother. She is accused of violently shanking the child and throwing her across the room. The child hit her head and suffered a fracture skull and other injuries. The incident occurred in March of 2008.
The child's mother had dropped the girl off while she went to work, then received a call that the child had been injured and taken to the hospital.
Beckett had been in jail almost two years before coming to trial. She will have to serve a minimum of half of her sentence, or 17-1/2 years, before becoming eligible for parole.
