FBI JOINS SEARCH FOR MAN WANTED IN TEMPLE MURDER/LORENA SEXUAL ASSAULT

The FBI has joined the search for Anthony Wayne O'Neal,  wanted for a murder in Temple and a sexual assault and theft of a vehicle in Lorena.  Authorities say checks of security cameras in businesses surrounding the area where a mini-van taken after the Lorena assault  was recovered in a small Louisana town on Interstate Ten turned up nothing. Television stations and newspapers throughout central and south Louisiana have been running stories about O'Neal and carrying his picture,  but so far no leads have turned up. O'neal is reported to have family in Gretna, Louisiana about fifty miles from New Orleans.

Rayne Police Chief Carroll Stelly states on the morning of August 23, 2010 at approximately 2:40 A.M. his department recovered a white Chrysler mini-van on the Winn Dixie parking lot in Rayne. The vehicle was discovered to be stolen from Lorena Texas. Once Lorena authorities were notified it was learned that the vehicle was taken from a residence where a home invasion had occurred.

Detectives with the Rayne Police Department spoke to Lorena Chief Tom Dixon and were told that the suspect had broken into a residence, tied up the mother and her three children then raped the mother. Once Texas authorities started their investigation they noticed another vehicle parked at the residence but the victims van was missing. That van is the one found in the parking lot in Rayne.

The other vehicle at the residence was found to be stolen from Temple Texas where that victim was
shot and killed. . Temple police say that man, Anthony Wayne O'Neal, is their suspect in a early Sunday morning shooting death at the Westgate Apartments in Temple. When police responded to that location about 12:20 am Sunday they found 24-year-old Michael Calders dead of a gunshot wound to the upper torsoe. The initial investigation reveals the victim and suspect were in an argument inside the victim’s apartment when the suspect produced a handgun and shot the victim. The suspect then took the victim’s keys and stole his 2000 gold Cadillac sedan, fleeing the area.

Temple Police released the suspect and stolen vehicle information to area law enforcement agencies as soon as possible. Investigators received a call from Lorena Police sometime after 1:30 am, advising that the vehicle and suspect descriptions released by Temple directly matched those from a Burglary of a Habitation and Sexual Assault case there. The Lorena case was reported at about 1:22 am.

Anthony Wayne O'Neal is described as being a black male,  6'1" tall and about 170 pounds. O'Neal, pictured, is said to now be wearing dreadlocks.

Due to the violent nature of these crimes police are considering O'neal armed and extremely dangerous. If you know the whereabouts on Anthony Wayne O'Neal please contact your local Police Department or the FBI.
